2 unusual facts about Hortus conclusus

Hortus conclusus

Sometimes, as with a Gerard David in London, the garden is very fully depicted; at other times, as in engravings by Martin Schongauer, only a wattle fence and a few sprigs of grass serve to identify the theme.

St Nicholas Abbey

The fireplaces and walled Medieval herb garden were almost certainly included in the original plans brought from England, and copied faithfully.
