It was pledged in 1273 from the county of Berg to the county of Mark, and became the Residenz in the county of Gimborn Neustadt of the House of Schwarzenberg in 1631.
On the top of the mountain there is a viewing tower built in 1825 by the noble family of Schwarzenberg.
It belongs to the House of Schwarzenberg, but during the summer months it is open to public on most days.
