5 unusual facts about Hout Bay


Fireworks nudibranch

This species has to date only been found off South Africa, near Vulcan Rock, south of Hout Bay, off Cape Town in at least 18m of water.

To the West it is bordered by Little Lion's Head (Klein Leeukop), Karbonkelberg, Kaptein's Peak and the Sentinel.

It forms a prominent landmark overlooking the harbour at Hout Bay.

Sepia robsoni

The type specimen was collected in Hout Bay, South Africa and is deposited at The Natural History Museum in London.

Tasselled nudibranch

It is also found off the South African coast, where it occurs from Hout Bay on the Cape Peninsula to the Wild Coast.
