Bill Gates' flower fly (Eristalis gatesi) is a flower fly found only in Costa Rican high montane cloud forests and named after Bill Gates.
Other nationally scarce species include the snail Ena montana, the hoverfly Xanthogramma citrotasciatum, and a number of beetle species.
There are two nationally rare Red Data Book species, the hoverfly Anasimyia interpuncta and the scarce emerald damselfly Lestes dryas.
There are also a great many insects, including the rare club-tailed dragonfly, banded demoiselle damselflies and white-legged damselflies, plus a range of butterflies, hoverflies and crickets.
