A third member of this family - RHBDD1 - cleaves Bcl-2-interacting killer (BIK) - a proapoptotic member of the B cell lymphoma 2 (Bcl-2) family.

A second related gene - rhomboid family 1 (RHBDF1) - appears to be important in head and neck cancer.


Kynaston, Shropshire

The name is intimately linked with the Kynaston family, the first to carry the surname being Gruffydd Kynaston of Cae Howel, a settlement in the locality.

Geoffrey's Cligueillus / Digueillus may be a corruption of the Old Welsh name Higuel (specifically, the 10th century AD king Higuel (Howel/Houuel) Bonus - i.e. Hywel Dda - mentioned in one of Geoffrey's sources, the Annales Cambriae, now Modern Welsh Howell.
