Archer Butler Hulbert, FRGS (26 Jan 1873 – 24 Dec 1933), historical geographer, writer, and professor of American history, son of Rev. Calvin Butler Hulbert and Mary Elizabeth Woodward, was born in Bennington, Vermont.

Hulbert then did newspaper work in Korea in 1897 and '98: he was editor of the Korean Independent (Seoul) and edited Far East American newspapers.
Hulbert's tombstone reads “I would rather be buried in Korea than in Westminster Abbey.”

His mother Mary Elizabeth Woodward Hulbert was a granddaughter of Mary Wheelock, daughter of Eleazar Wheelock, the founder of Dartmouth College.
Hulbert was elected as a Federalist to the Thirteenth Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Daniel Dewey.
