I Would Die 4 U

The extended version of "I Would Die 4 U" is actually a studio jam on the song with The Revolution and musicians from Sheila E.'s band, Eddie M (on sax) and Miko Weaver (guitar), along with Sheila E. herself; most of this version was often performed live, preceding "Baby I'm a Star".

Jinian Wilde

In 2002, Wilde performed lead and backing vocals on Space Cowboy's "I Would Die 4 U (Extended Club Mix)", a remake of the famous Prince song.


Purple Rain Tour

During "I Would Die 4 U"/"Baby I'm a Star", Prince would invite Apollonia 6, Sheila E., and members of her band to jam with them for a long 20-30 minute rendition of the songs.

Sensational spelling

In the 1980s it became common with funk artists such as Prince (e.g. "U Got The Look", "I Would Die 4 U"), and eventually came to be epitomized in the rap and hip-hop genres, with both song titles and artists' names (e.g. Ludacris, Phanatik, Timbaland, Xzibit, Gorillaz) using the form.
