Sultan was pardoned by his former ruler King Abd al-Aziz ibn Saud of Nejd and Hejaz (later of Saudi Arabia), but was later jailed in Riyadh where he died in 1931 suffering from Aneurysm
In 1930, he started his own construction business and after coming to the attention of Abdul Aziz Ibn Saud, first monarch of Saudi Arabia, he eventually achieved such success that his family became known as "the wealthiest non-royal family in the kingdom."
Decisions are made by establishing a consensus within the royal family (comprising the numerous descendants of the kingdom's founder, King Abdulaziz).
