Scudder was elected as a Republican to the Eighty-first and to the four succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1949-January 3, 1959).
She has studied art in Villa Faraldi, Italy, makes her own cover illustrations for Krøniken om Ylva Alm, and does illustrations for for weekly magazines on a regular basis.
Scudder was elected as a Democratic-Republican to the Eleventh Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of James Cox and served from October 31, 1810, to March 3, 1811.
