Illinois Route 13 did not take its current physical form, though, until after the enactment of the Good Roads Movement paving program in 1918.
After almost two centuries of improvements, much of it is now part of Illinois Route 13.

Illinois Route 4 is a long state road that runs south from the Interstate 55 business loop around the state capital of Springfield, south to Illinois Route 13 just north of Murphysboro.
