The first light used at Cape Spear had already been used since 1815 at a lighthouse at Inchkeith on the east coast of Scotland.
The fortifications at Leith, Inchkeith and Dunbar Castle were duly removed, and the French garrisons left Scotland.
Eight ships including the Antelope and Lyon carried on into the Firth of Forth towards the fortress Island of Inchkeith on 21 January.
