The Indus World School was established by IIT and IIM alumni R. Satya Narayanan, Gautam Puri, Nikhil Mahajan, Sujit Bhattacharyya, R. Srinivasan, D. Vijay Kumar and Shiv Kumar who wished to create "a place of learning with a difference".
Lajpat Nagar and Lajpat Nagar Central Market in New Delhi, Lajpat Rai Market in Chandani Chowk, Delhi; Lala Lajpat Rai Hall of Residence at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in Kanpur and Kharagpur; as well as the Lala Lajpat Rai Institute of Engineering and Technology(LLRIET), Moga, are named in his honor.
The university has established cooperation with the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) of India in offering MBAs and PhDs in industrial engineering.
In recent times education standards have improved and a few students got admitted to prestigious IITs and NITs.
Sury received his Masters in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in Computer Technology from Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), Delhi, in 1978, and his Bachelors of Electrical Engineering with specialization in Electronics from Delhi College of Engineering, in 1976, both at the top of his class.

The government proposed to reserve 27% of seats in the premier educational institutions of India like All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Other Medical Colleges, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and other central institutions of higher education for the OBCs in order to help them gain higher levels of representation in these institutions.
Its alumni have gone on to join some of the top colleges in India like the Indian Institutes of Technology, National Institutes of Technology, Anna University, Delhi Technological University, AIIMS, BIT Mesra, Loyola College, Chennai, Christ University, etc. and abroad like NUS, Nanyang Technological University, Georgia Tech, UCLA, Caltech, Cornell, Purdue University, etc.
The children passing out from this school have excelled in many professional areas and have even qualified for IIT, NDA, UPTU and are working with reputed multinationals.
Students have gone on to join Harvard University, University of Chicago, Cardiff University, Indian Institutes of Technology, National Defence Academy (India), and other engineering, medical, defence, liberal arts and business management programs.
Most students graduating enter higher education institutions especially engineering institutions like Indian Institutes of Technology, Birla Institute of Technology and Science, NIT Tiruchi, National University of Singapore and Anna University.
