Works by German and Austrian Expressionists August Macke, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Alexej von Jawlensky, Max Beckmann, and Emil Nolde, along with early modern European and American masters such as Fernand Léger, Marcel Duchamp, Georges Braque, and Kurt Schwitters, are in the museum’s collection.

John W. Ryan

The presentation was a particularly special occasion, because it was Ryan who, as president, created the University Medal in 1982, bestowing it first on Thomas T. Solley, director of the IU Art Museum.

Leandro Bassano

In addition to his many portraits and religious pieces, Leandro painted secular, genre-like works, such as his, Concert, now in the Uffizi Gallery and his, Kitchen Scene, hung in the Indiana University Art Museum.
