Inergen, Sinorix CDT and Cerexen, which use some combination of argon, nitrogen and carbon dioxide are similar products.
For normally unoccupied areas, the alternatives include carbon dioxide, powdered Aerosol C, HCFC-22, HCFC-124, HFC-125, HFC-134a, gelled halocarbon/dry chemical suspension (PGA), blend of inert gas, high expansion foam systems and powdered aerosol (FS 0140), and IG-541 (Inergen).
On 20 February 2010, a fire suppression system accidentally released Inergen into the WestHost data center during a yearly test.
During the inspection, a mistake was made that triggered the release of Inergen, causing damage to servers.
