7 unusual facts about Inishowen

Tyrone and Tyrconnell fled from Ireland early in September 1607 (the Flight of the Earls); O'Cahan, who ruled the greater part of what is now County Londonderry, and of O'Doherty, the chief of Inishowen in County Donegal, came under some suspicion.

Inishowen

As the coastline turns towards the East it reaches Lough Foyle and Shroove on the mouth of the Lough and then Greencastle (a port used by fishing boats and landing point for the car ferry to and from Magilligan in County Londonderry, Northern Ireland).

DylanFest on the Lough, Ireland's only annual festival of Bob Dylan music, takes place in Moville where bands from all over Europe and visitors from all over the world congregate to play and hear Bob Dylan music.

Inis Eoghain is also the ancient homeland of the Mac Lochlainn clan (descended from the tribe of Eoghan), a clan that grew so formidable that they eventually came under siege by a Limerick King, who came north to Aileach, and ordered the destruction of Aileach fort, and that each soldier was to carry away a stone from the fort in order to prevent its rebuilding.

Then as the road heads South along Lough Foyle it passes through Moville town, Quigley's Point and the Village of Muff where the road turns right and heads back to Bridgend where the journey started.

Moville

Moville (Magh Bhile or Bun an Phobail in Irish, having the same etymology as Movilla Abbey) is a town and coastal resort on the Inishowen Peninsula of County Donegal, Ireland, close to the northern tip of the island of Ireland.

The championship links Strand course is set amidst imposing sand dunes with panoramic views across the Atlantic mouth of Lough Foyle to the Inishowen peninsula beyond.


Darerca of Ireland

Darerca's second husband, Chonas the Briton, founded the church of Both-chonais, now Binnion, Parish of Clonmany, in the barony of Inishowen, County Donegal.

July 2010 R238 traffic collision

Eight people were killed on the night of 11 July 2010 when a black Volkswagen Passat collided with a red Toyota Corolla on the R238 Buncrana to Clonmany road on the Inishowen Peninsula in County Donegal, Ireland.

River Eske

In the town, it passes several tourist attractions, one of which is Donegal Castle, the former seat of the O'Donnell Clan, the ancient rulers of the Lordship of Tyrconnell (roughly similar to modern day County Donegal without the Inishowen Peninsula).
