Buddleja parviflora is large dioecious shrub or small tree endemic to much of upland Mexico north of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec, in forests at elevations of 750 – 3500 m.
curvipennis formerly included the Wedge-tailed Sabrewing (C. pampa) of the Yucatán and the Long-tailed Sabrewing (C. excellens) of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec under the English name Wedge-tailed Sabrewing.

Shipments on the Tehuantepec Route would arrive at Mexican ports—Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, for eastbound cargo, and Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz for westbound cargo—and would traverse the Isthmus of Tehuantepec on the Tehuantepec National Railway.
He served during the War with Mexico at Vera Cruz and Tabasco on board the USS Stromboli He resigned as a passed midshipman 10 May 1852 after his last mission as an assistant on John G. Barnard's survey of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
