Some believe that Jácome founded the city of Angra do Heroísmo, the largest city on the island, but others support the claim of Álvaro Martins.
The area of Praia, was one of the first points of colonization on the island of Terceira; the islands first Captain-Donatorio, Jácome de Bruges, along with his first lieutenant, Diogo de Teive, established their residency in Praia.
