He currently lives in Peoria, Arizona with his wife, Kelsey; twin daughters Lauren and Kaelyn, born in 2005; son Ethan, born in 2009; and daughter Addison, born in 2011.
After graduating from Michigan in 2002, Kollen-Putz married Major League Baseball pitcher J. J. Putz.
On December 11, 2008 Cleto was traded to the Mariners with Aaron Heilman, Endy Chávez, Jason Vargas, Mike Carp and Ezequiel Carrera in exchange for J. J. Putz, Jeremy Reed and Sean Green.
After his third error of the game allowed the Seattle to take a 10–9 lead in the top of the 9th, Vázquez doubled to right-center field off Mariners closer J. J. Putz, just out of Ichiro's reach, to drive in 2 runs as the Rangers won the game 11–10.
