He used his extensive network of contacts to bring a number of experienced professionals to Home Park, including; Andy Clark, Jack Fitchett, Bob Jack, Billy Leech and Jack Peddie.
During his youth, Fitchett was an actor and was a member of Fred Karno's Theatrical Company.

After World War I, Fitchett became manager of the New Palace Theatre in Union Street, Plymouth.
