The cover photograph of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, taken by Jack Leigh, featured an evocative sculpture of a young girl, the so-called Bird Girl, that had been in the cemetery, essentially unnoticed for over 50 years.
John David "Jack" Leigh II (November 8, 1948 – May 19, 2004), a native of Savannah, Georgia and a graduate of The Savannah Country Day School and the University of Georgia, was a photographer and author, best known for the cover photograph on the novel Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
