Putatundu contested the Jadavpur assembly constituency in the 2011 West Bengal assembly election, running against incumbent Chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharya.
He is a media educator and associated with Calcutta, Jadavpur, Burdwan, Viswa Bharati Universities and Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Orissa, and Bharatya Vidya Bhavan, Kolkata, as visiting lecturer.
Whereas the southern neighborhoods, like Ballygunge, Bhowanipore, Alipore, Rashbehari Avenue, Dhakuria, Gariahat, Jadavpur, Hazra Road, Kasba, Tollygunge, Garia, and Jodhpur Park does have a slight "Bangal" influence but frequently identified with cosmopolitan Bengalis and their culture, cuisine and identity.
