The Battle of Jaguarão was fought in the town of Jaguarão in the then province of Rio Grande do Sul, on 27 January 1865, between the Imperial Brazilian Army and a Uruguayan militia during the Uruguayan War.
The third force, the 3rd Division under Brigadier General José Fernandes, left from Jaguarão, protecting Caxias' left.
Right across the river lies the Brazilian town of Jaguarão, with the Baron of Mauá International Bridge joining the two cities.
