James Kānehoa

James Young Kānehoa (1797–1851) was a member of the court of King Kamehameha II and Kamehameha III during the Kingdom of Hawaii.

From 1846 he was a member of the first Board of Land Commissioners under Kamehameha III.

Eventually, his experience abroad and his fluency in English led to recognization by Kamehameha II when Kānehoa returned to Hawaii.

When Henry Augustus Wise visited in 1848, he met James Young (1797–1851), then Governor of Maui, who was living in the fort.
