He continued to play however and in 2008 he entered the World Amateur Championships in Wels, Austria where he lost to eventual champion Thepchaiya Un-Nooh in last 16.

He came closest to doing this in the sixth event of the year, the Welsh Open, where he received a bye through round one and then beat James Wattana and Jack Lisowski, before being whitewashed 0–4 by former world champion Peter Ebdon in the final qualifying round.
A rank outsider in this tournament, he took out the top 16 players James Wattana, Ronnie O'Sullivan, Stephen Lee and Stephen Hendry en route to the final before losing 3–9 to World Champion John Higgins.
There he caused an upset by defeating former world champion Graeme Dott 4-2 in the qualifying, and went on to beat his famous compatriot James Wattana 4-3 at the venue, before having been whitewashed in the last 32 match by Mike Dunn.
