In a related vein, Jauja is the setting for an episode of "Prisoners of the Sun", one of the books in the comics series on the Adventures of Tintin by the Belgian artist Hergé.
He decided to return to Peru and settle in the city of Jauja, Junín Region, with two aims: to improve his health and, most of all, to leave Lima because of the harassment of Dora Mayer, an old Pro-Indigenous Association colleague.

In 1919 he decided to run as a substitute delegate for Jauja province, but was arrested just before the election and sent to the regional capital, Cerro de Pasco, accused of anarchism and instigating rebellion amongst the peasantry.
One was the city of Cuzco itself, the second was the town of Jauja, entrusted to the treasurer Riquelme, and the third was the recent settlement of San Miguel which ensured the flow of reinforcements by sea.
It has about 300,000 speakers and three main dialects: Waylla Wanka in Huancayo and Chupaca provinces, Waycha Wanka in Concepción and Shawsha Wanka in Jauja.
