Jawalakhel is famous for the annual chariot festival of Rato Machhendranath which ends with the Bhoto Jatra ceremony that takes place on the large open ground at the town center.
NPIX Maintains two IX locations in Kathmandu valley, one in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur district and another in Putalisadak, Kathmandu district.
After a few years, because of the increasing number of students, the primary school was shifted to Jawalakhel (St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel) and the high school remained at Godavari.
It was founded as a high school (Intermediate level) of St. Xavier's School, Jawalakhel, Lalitpur and was later shifted to Maitighar, Kathmandu in 1988 by the Society of Jesus.
