He was also put in charge of the delegation that met with the envoys of Queen Elizabeth I at Bourbourg in 1587, in a feigned attempt to end hostilities between England and Spain.

He was born in Champlitte in 1540 as the son of Guillaume Grusset and Marguerite Richardot.

The move earned him an appointment to the Privy Council of the rebels' Governor-General Archduke Matthias.
