After Jerry Pimm replaced DeLacy in 1983, Howland helped Pimm lead the Gauchos to five post-season appearances between 1988 and 1994.
Playing for Montebello High School, Pimm earned the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section's high school player of the award in 1956.
At first, crowds were small, but with the hiring of Jerry Pimm in 1983, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos men's basketball program began to experience greater success.
