After the first two series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Nail found himself typecast before creating the detective series Spender, which he co-wrote with Ian La Frenais.
In 2002, owners NCJ were sued by Jimmy Nail for publishing allegations relating to the actors behavior during the filming of the third series of Auf Wiedersehen, Pet.

More recently he worked with Roger Daltrey (The Who), Ruby Turner and Jimmy Nail for the Teenage Cancer Trust benefit concert in 2008 and with Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits) for the Sunday for Sammy concert at Newcastle City Hall in 2010.
She has also composed music for two productions by Newcastle's "Live Theatre", presented a series of programmes for "BBC Radio 2" and TV programmes on music composition for Channel 4 Schools, recorded with the Penguin Cafe Orchestra, The Chieftains, Beth Nielson Chapman, The Boys of the Lough, Jimmy Nail, Linda Thompson, Alan Parsons, Andy Sheppard and many others.
Songs written by McAloon have also been recorded by Kylie Minogue ("If You Don't Love Me"), Cher ("The Gunman"), Wendy Matthews ("God Watch Over You" and "Ride"), Sondre Lerche ("Nightingales" - the song appeared in "From Langley Park to Memphis" and Lerche sang it with the Faces Down Quartet as a tribute to Prefab Sprout), Danny Seward ("Home (Where The Heart Is)"), Momus ("Green Isaac Pt. 2") and various songs for Jimmy Nail.
She performed a duet with Jimmy Nail on his chart-topping single "Ain't No Doubt" in 1992, and appeared as a backing vocalist on the 1992 Joan Armatrading album Square the Circle, along with Linda Lewis and her sister Shirley Lewis.
