unusual facts about John Fahey

Davey Graham

Though this open tuning was used decades earlier by such blues guitarists as Blind Blake and Charlie Patton (and by John Fahey on his 1958 record Blind Joe Death), Graham was one of the first guitarist from England to use it.

Adelphi Records

The label name was crafted by Rosenthal to "suggest" a combination of the Greek oracle, nearby Adelphi, Maryland, as well as a tip of the hat to a John Fahey song, "The Downfall of the Adelphi Rolling Grist Mill".

Blind Blake

His complex and intricate finger picking has inspired Reverend Gary Davis, Jorma Kaukonen, Ry Cooder, John Fahey, Ralph McTell, Leon Redbone and many others.

Gastr del Sol

1996's Upgrade & Afterlife included a would-be film score by O'Rourke, "Our Exquisite Replica of 'Eternity'", and an extended interpretation of the John Fahey piece "Dry Bones in the Valley" featuring guest Tony Conrad on violin.

Greg Barns

Barns was an adviser to New South Wales premier Nick Greiner (1988–1991), his successor and later Federal Minister for Finance, John Fahey (1991–1996), and the Howard government.

Robbie Basho

Although he played the euphonium in the high school band and sang in middle school and high school ensembles, his interest in acoustic guitar grew during his college years, as a direct result of his friendships with fellow students John Fahey, Ed Denson, and Max Ochs.

Takoma Records

Contemporary Guitar, a compilation recorded in 1966 and featuring artists John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Bukka White, Max Ochs, and Harry Taussig, displays Takoma's interest in diverse acoustic-guitar styles, from plantation blues to raga.
