Bishop of Bristol

Though he took part in the trial of John Hooper, Bishop of Gloucester, and served also on a commission to try Nicholas Ridley and Hugh Latimer, in general he took no active part in the proceedings on the score of heresy.

Hooper did his best; but in less than a year the bishopric of Gloucester was reduced to an archdeaconry and added to Worcester, of which Hooper was made bishop in succession to Nicholas Heath.

Hooper then had a hand in the formation of the Zwinglian-inspired Dutch and French Stranger churches in Glastonbury and London.

The vacancy arose because of the resignation of the sitting member, John Hooper of the Irish Parliamentary Party.
