Harmon, one of several female winemakers in Virginia, is a graduate of the University of Virginia and studied under Virginia winemaker Gabriele Rausse at the Kluge Estate run by the deceased billionaire John Kluge's ex-wife Patricia Kluge.
In 1956, DuMont shuttered the network and sold what remained of his television operations to John Kluge, who renamed the network Metromedia.

Kluge made what was at the time the largest monetary donation in the Library’s history: US$60 million to create within the Library the John W. Kluge Center, a place for advanced scholars and a Nobel-level prize for lifetime achievement in the humanities or social sciences.
Established in 2000 within the restored Thomas Jefferson Building, the Center is named for its benefactor, John W. Kluge who donated $60 million to support an academic center where accomplished senior scholars and junior post-doctoral fellows might gather to make use of the Library's collections and to interact with members of Congress.
