Phil Taylor emerged as champion, overcoming John Lowe 5-4 in an epic semi-final before beating Rod Harrington in the final to claim his first PDC title, his third World Championship in all.
As part of ITV's World of Sport's original roster of commentators, he commentated on the first ever televised nine dart finish hit by John Lowe against Keith Deller on 13 October 1984.

Hanton was in an early line-up of the band from c Summer 1956 along with John Lennon, Eric Griffiths, Pete Shotton and Rod Davis, and stayed with the band through several line-up changes until January 1959 (by which time the band consisted of Lennon, Hanton, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and John Lowe).
He defeated Kim Jensen and John Lowe before losing to Phil Taylor, who went on to win his first world title and dominate the sport.
