2 unusual facts about John Lucas


John Seymour Lucas

He was born into an artistic London family, (he was the nephew of the painter John Lucas) and originally trained as a woodcarver, but turned his attention to portrait painting and entered first the St. Martin's Lane Art School and later the Royal Academy Schools.

Peter Heyworth

He was the author of Conversations with Klemperer (1973) and Otto Klemperer: His Life and Times (2 vols, 1983-1996; 2nd vol completed by John Lucas).


1974–75 Spirits of St. Louis season

The Spirits drafted John Lucas (who stayed in college), Gus Gerard and Mickey Johnson (who signed with the Chicago Bulls of the NBA), and in a special draft of NBA players selected Pete Maravich, Henry Bibby, Phil Jackson, Paul Westphal and Jeff Mullins, all of whom stayed in the NBA.
