Perryman was strong in voice and personality and a long series of understudy and small roles eventually led her, through the recommendation of John McCallum, who was then joint managing director of J. C. Williamson Theatres Ltd, to take the lead in the key Australian production of Funny Girl, a performance that won her an Erik Award for Best Actress and led to major roles in other productions.
Millar was married to University of Missouri college student James Sidney Rollins, Jr. (1950-?), photographer and television director John Florea (1954-1957), author and sportswriter John McCallum (1961–64) and to United States Navy pilot and former Stadium HS classmate Lt. Cmdr. Charles Candoo (1964-death).
He also played the manservant in the stageplay Stardust, with Googie Withers and John McCallum.
At the same time, husband-and-wife team John McCallum and Googie Withers toured it with great success in Australia, playing it in repertory with the Terence Rattigan drama The Deep Blue Sea.

Her other stage roles include Australian productions of Harvey with Joe E. Brown, Simon and Laura and Deep Blue Sea with Googie Withers and John McCallum, the lead role opposite Emrys Jones in Double Image, and a featured role with Sir Robert Helpmann in Nude with Violin.
When he suddenly became unavailable, Fauna's John McCallum flew to London in panic and was lucky enough to audition New Zealand actor James Laurenson on his last day there.
