HMAS Oxley

Two submarines of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) have been named HMAS Oxley, for the explorer John Oxley.

North Quay, Brisbane

Although North Quay is most likely not the exact location selected by John Oxley and Sir Thomas Brisbane during scouting expeditions in November 1824, the high banks at North Quay proved to be highly suitable, well above the flood levels that plagued Brisbane in subsequent years.

Hastings River

The river was first charted by European explorers in 1818, after its discovery by John Oxley who named the river for the then Governor-General of India, Francis Rawdon-Hastings, 1st Marquess of Hastings.
