1980–81 Football League

They were joined by Notts County and Swansea City, completing a meteoric rise under John Toshack, from the Fourth Division to the First in just four years.

Toshack Highway

The band name derives from merging the surnames of two Liverpool FC football players from the 1970s, John Toshack and Steve Heighway.


La Quinta del Buitre

With the years, the "Quinta Del Buitre" has earned a more generic meaning, being also associated with a brand of football played by Real Madrid in the late 1980s and early 1990s, under the stewardship of coaches Luis Molowny, Leo Beenhakker and John Toshack.

In the 1967-68 Cup Winners' Cup, in a team that included John Toshack in attack and Bob Wilson in goal, Dean scored 3 goals including the winner in the quarter-final play-off against Moscow Torpedo and 2 goals in the semi-final against Hamburg, which Cardiff lost 4-3 on aggregate.
