It was designed and built in 2007 by Joost Swarte and Henk Döll who also collaborated on the Haarlem theater, the Toneelschuur, located around the corner.

Joost Swarte

International recognition started around 1980 when Swarte took part for the first time in the international comic show Salon International de la Bande Dessinée in Angoulême (France).

He is however more famous for his numerous drawings, stamps, posters, cards, LP and CD covers, and for his magazine covers (most noteworthy the Dutch magazine Vrij Nederland, the Belgian magazine HUMO and the Italian architecture magazine Abitare.)

Krazy Kat

The Netherlands' Real Free Press published five issues of "Krazy Kat Komix" in 1974-1976, containing a few hundred strips apiece; each of the issues' covers was designed by Joost Swarte.
