Joseph E. Brennan (born 1934), U.S. politician, former Governor of Maine
In addition, Mr. Brennan’s son, Joseph Brennan was an Irish Civil Servant who became Secretary of the Department of Finance, Chairman of the Currency Commission from 1927 until 1943 and was governor of the Central Bank of Ireland from 1943 to 1953.
He had bested Joseph Brennan in the Democratic primary, and had the backing of popular former Governor, and then Maine Senator Edmund Muskie.
Incumbent Democratic Governor Joseph Brennan was term limited and unable to seek re-election.
