Glassman and Judith McHale led to the award of the Joint Meritorious Civilian Service Award by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in May, 2010.

He died along with Enrico Mattei, a leader of Italian oil company ENI, in a plane crash on October 27, 1962, later classified as a sabotage.
