Initially, it was reported that the Bollywood film, Gulaab Gang, starring Madhuri Dixit and Juhi Chawla as leads, is based on Sampat Pal's life, but the director denied this, saying that he is obliged to her work but the movie is not based on her life.

The film is a remake of the 1990 Tamil film Velai Kidaichuduchu and was later again remade in Hindi in 1996 titled Loafer, starring popular actors Anil Kapoor and Juhi Chawla.
The story focuses on Aman Sharma a.k.a. Banku (Aman Siddiqui), who has recently shifted into an old bungalow in Goa, with his parents, Aditya (Shahrukh Khan) and Anjali (Juhi Chawla).
Lead actress Juhi Chawla accepted the central role of Kantaben, the headmistress of the orphanage, in this children's movie for the sake of her own two children, then aged 11 and 9, who had particularly enjoyed the earlier My Friend Ganesha movies by this same director Rajiv S. Ruia and made her realise how much children really enjoy and need such films specifically designed for a child audience.
