Alves made his official debut for the Che on 13 September 2011, in a 0–0 away draw against K.R.C. Genk for the season's UEFA Champions League.
He played for Anderlecht, Dutch oufit PSV Eindhoven, Club Brugge, Lokeren, Winterslag and La Louviere before hanging up his boots after suffering relegation with second division Tienen.
His debut came on 22 August 2001 in a 3–2 home win against FC Den Bosch, and he went on to play three more matches before he was sent on loan to K.R.C. Genk, with whom he won the 2001–02 edition of the Belgian League.
After defeating PSG in the quarter-finals, Waterschei lost the first leg of the semi-final 5–1 at Pittodrie Stadium, home of the eventual winners, Aberdeen F.C. A 1–0 victory in Waterschei, courtesy of Eddy Voordeckers, could not reverse the position.

In its first European season, Racing Genk eliminated successively Apolonia and MSV Duisburg but it lost to RCD Mallorca in the round of 16 after two draws (1–1 on aggregate) in the last Cup Winners' Cup ever.
In 2002, at the age of just 18, Vandenbergh was signed by the Flemish side Genk.
