The 2009–10 season started fruitfully for Reis, as he netted three goals in the Eredivisie, four goals in the Europa League, and another one in the Dutch cup despite having been starter at PSV on only a handful of occasions.
On 17 September 1978, aged 18, Torres made his league debut for Twente, in a home game against Sparta Rotterdam, scoring his first goal a few weeks later at HFC Haarlem, and ending his first season with three goals in 23 matches as the Enschede club finished in 11th position and reached the final of the Dutch Cup, lost to league champions AFC Ajax.

On 21 December 2011 Bas Nijhuis gained worldwide attention and public criticism for sending off AZ Alkmaar goalkeeper Esteban Alvarado in a KNVB Cup second round match against Ajax after an Ajax supporter ran onto the pitch of the Amsterdam Arena and attacked him, prompting Alvarado to retaliate in self-defence by kicking the attacker several times.
He also played in the KNVB Cup final against Feyenoord and won his second KNVB Cup.
