Banks Broadcasting was the owner of former WB Network and current The CW Television Network affiliate KSCW-TV in Wichita, Kansas from its launch in 1999 (as KWCV) until July 20, 2007 when it was officially sold to Schurz Communications, the owner of that market's CBS affiliate KWCH-TV.
On February 22, News Corporation announced it would start up another new network called MyNetworkTV.

KWCH had been producing local news on KSAS-TV (owned by Newport Television) through a news share agreement since January 2004, but the news share arrangement expired at the end of 2011.

Prior to the station's launch, there was no affiliate with the network in Wichita; WB programming could only be viewed in the Wichita market through Chicago-based cable superstation WGN, which carried the network's programming nationwide from its January 1995 launch until the summer of 1999.
In August 2010, KTUU became the third Schurz-owned television station (after KWCH-DT and KSCW-DT in Wichita, Kansas and WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia) to relaunch its Web site through a new partnership with the Tribune Company's Tribune Interactive division.
