Ivittuut and Kangilinnguit are connected by a road (which is roughly 5 km long), the only two towns in Greenland to do so.
The town of Ivittuut is abandoned, and the only settlement of the municipality is the naval base Kangilinnguit (Grønnedal) which is to stay.
It was originally proposed three sites for the location: Nuuk, Narsarsuaq or the current location of the Marine Station Grønnedal (Kangilinnguit) - here the choice fell on Nuuk.
