The kapok tree is about 25 m high and was identified as an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International because it supported a colony of Bourne's Herons.
This company then operated her under the name Boa Entrada until 1990, converting her to an oil tanker and using her to supply liquid fuel and bottled gas on behalf of ENACOL, the state fuel company.
The village is linked with the road linking to the Boa Entrada as well as the Tarrafal-Assomada Road.
