In her autobiography, Palestinian author Ghada Karmi describes growing up in Katamon, from which she and her father, linguist Hasan Karmi, and the rest of the family, fled in 1948 after fierce fighting broke out.

In her 2002 autobiography, In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story, she describes growing up in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Katamon, with its mixture of Palestinian Christians and Muslims.
Rabbi Simcha Krauss, a major figure in Centrist Orthodoxy, is known for his role in the Religious Zionists of America, but since making aliyah in 2005, he has been involved with Yeshivat Eretz HaTzvi, in the Katamon neighbourhood of Jerusalem.
