The name "Kensei" means "master swordsman" and "Takezo" is the birthname of the historical swordmaster Miyamoto Musashi – Kensei is based upon various legends of Japanese swordsmen, including Musashi.
Larry Olsen (born 1948 in Nudgee Beach, Queensland) is an Australian retired jockey and current reporter for Sky News Australia who is best known for riding Kensei to victory in the 1987 Melbourne Cup.
