The first branch opened in Prince al Mansour Street in Dammam in the 1980s, and later expanded to Khobar and eventually Jeddah.
Traditionally, Khobar has also been a city of shopkeepers and merchants, and the city today has many modern malls and boulevards with shops run by international franchises and restaurants.
It is a K-12 educational institution with a certified curriculum (Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Islamabad) that has been gradually upgraded over the years.
US and Coalition military operations at Khobar and Dhahran were subsequently relocated to Prince Sultan Air Base, a remote and highly secure Royal Saudi Air Force installation near Al-Kharj in central Saudi Arabia, approximately 70 miles from Riyadh.
