Connecticut Yankee Council

Connecticut Yankee Council presently operates five camps: Camp Sequassen in New Hartford, Deer Lake Scout Reservation in Killingworth, Hoyt Scout Reservation in Redding, Camp Pomperaug in Union, and Wah Wah Taysee in North Haven.

Edward Bancroft

At the age of sixteen, Bancroft was apprenticed to a physician in Killingworth, Connecticut, but ran away after a few years.


Killingworth locomotives

'The Killingworth Billy' or 'Billy' (not to be confused with Puffing Billy) was built in 1826 to Stephenson's design by Robert Stephenson and Company.

Robert Bald

In 1812 David Brewster commissioned Bald to write the 'mine' entry for the 'Edinburg Encyclopaedia', a task that involved visiting the colliery at Killingworth where George Stephenson had introduced steam powered machine for raising coal from the pit face.

Silas Halsey

Born in Southampton, he attended the public schools and studied medicine at Elizabethtown, New Jersey (later Elizabeth.) He returned to Southampton and practiced medicine from 1764 to 1776; he then resided three years in Killingworth, Connecticut during the American Revolutionary War, when he again returned to Southampton.
